CDobyn's CD

Here's a strange GCC-4240N drive:

This is a GCC-4240N CDRW/DVD drive that is housed in a squared-off configuration. Pictures are from an eBay auction and have been used without permission. However, I did leave the image tags intact. If available, these pictures will be replaced later on by ones taken by the owner.

This is one of my GCC-4240N drives currently installed in a 600X:

First two pictures are the same views as the drive shown above.

And here's one with the Ultraslimbay's connector removed from the drive showing screw locations. The outer two are the ones used by the Ultraslimbay connector. The one in the middle appears to be located in the same spot where the "Electronics Cafe" (EC) drive is using one.

My guess is that there is a similar plug that is inserted into the drive's IDE connector and routes the signals out the connector. CDobyns has indicated that it appears to be "hard-wired" in. I would hope that it is not since that would mean that the back panel of the drive has been modified with a different connector. I believe that by removing the three screws shown on the back of the EC drive and the ones along both sides, a standard bare drive will result. The front panel (aka, bezel) may need to be "tweaked" in order to fit inside the Ultraslimbay opening.

Except for the two "Electronics Cafe photos, all pictures were taken by me using a Canon A510 camera and prepared for web posting using Paint Shop Pro 7.
